SRK is the desi answer to every film star that ever was and ever will be and needless to say desis adore him. For the uninitiated, those initials stand for Shah Rukh Khan a.k.a King Khan as desi pop media likes to call him. For desis, he is Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, <any other famous film star>, all rolled into one. By going shirtless in his latest film, he has successfully wooed both desi guys and gals in a single song. To desis, he’s not just a star he’s also their only way of making a quick and nifty 2 crore.
Opinion may be divided when it comes to the most powerful member of the bollywood glitterati but when it comes to commanding desi attention on the silver screen and the idiot box alike, SRK wins hands down.It may be hot as hell in India but when SRK dares desis to wear black, they do. SRK causes desi women to wish that their husband’s change their middle names from say a rather traditional “Aatmaram” to a much sexier “Mayur”. Desis can also tirelessly watch SRK give interviews to the same interviewer on the same channel on a weekly basis. They later favorite this interview on YouTube. Many desis bring in the new year with SRK in their living rooms. This is because New Years night is truly a SRK bonanza, not only is he performing on stage that night, but he is also performing in the ads during the commercial break. This is the most uninterrupted and fulsome SRK experience for desis, because in a SRK film, the camera does occasionally focus on any other actors that there might be.
SRK also is the only connection for NRI’s and their kids to India. Every semester the ABCD kids will dance to a SRK number as part of their cultural event showcasing India. Although SRK prefers to be cool and guzzle Pepsi instead of being referred to as “uncle” just yet, there’s a high chance that he is offered as a ‘minor’ as part of some India studies program . Never has a NRI been as nostalgic about his homeland as when SRK feeds pigeons from Punjab on screen.
Relentless SRK promotion by some desis fools other desis into thinking that they actually hate SRK. But this is not true, because at heart every desi knows that “haar ke bhi jeetne waale ko SRK…errrr….baazigar kehte hai!”
I personally try to avoid SRK movies. But my dear friend is a major fan of SRK, and thanks to her I watch all his movies. In my opinion true superstar is Rajnikanth. I claim to dislike him but I always , ALWAYS, enjoy his movies and acting… May be your next movie article should be about Thalaivar.

as an aussie (australian) I would like to advise that non-desis love SRK too! I was, and remain his first and forever #1 aussie fan for more than 7 years and I know of thousands of non-desi SRK fans all over the world thru the internet.
